Mission Love Seeds plans on building a new church similar to the one completed Pantay in 2009.

Video showing a similar church Mission Love Seeds built in 2009. This video was an introduction to a video conference we held between US and Filipino children. It documents the opening of the new church in Pantay.

In previous posts I’ve commented on the use of flickr and it’s place in the photography world. There are many out there who believe flickr is for amateurs and taboo in the ‘professional’ world. I for one disagree. My main reason, is there is a huge photographic audience on flickr looking at well… ‘photographs’.

Why do people take pictures? Most want their pictures to be seen by others. What better place than a site with millions of people interested in photography. No it’s very unlikely you will make a living off of flickr but for those who have a passion for photography it’s a great place to showcase your work.

Some of the images I’ve posted have over 10,000 views. That’s 9,950 more than would have seen the image back in the days before the Internet. If you total all my image views together it is over 160,000 views. So my advice to all photographers who are passionate about their work, showcase your photographs on flickr or sites like flickr. That’s why we take pictures, right?

Below is a simple trailer video I put together for a humanitarian video I was producing. As of this posting the video has been viewed 24,300 times.

Child Praying – Viewed over 11,700 times as of this posting. This image has actually been used on a few posters and found by searching flickr. It also comes up in the top images when searching Google for “Child Praying”.

Several images I took in Haiti after the January 2010 earthquake were used in a video for the song “In the Name of Love” performed by the Gospel and Urban group Krystaal. The video states, “Proceeds go to World Vision’s Haiti Emergency Relief fund.” Below is the video used to promote the song via the Internet.

As of today the short video below has been seen over 15,000 times. Now I know you can go on YouTube and create some stupid video and get X number of million hits but my point is the way we view images, video, and even art is changing right before our eyes. The Internet has given the ability for everyone to become a broadcaster of their creativity.

15 or even 10 years ago having a picture “seen” by thousands or millions of people was not feasible. Why? One reason was broadband Internet was not widely available and the second is social networking had not taken off. There are advantages and disadvantages to this.

The disadvantage is there is a lot of “noise” or junk out there that you have to sort through. Just sign up for twitter and you’ll see what I mean.

As far as advantages and there are many, one is it gives everyone a chance to show their creativity or work at very little cost. Joe in the middle of nowhere can showcase his work on the Internet just as good or even better than some high-end artist in New York. A level playing field has been created.

I post more on the topic in the coming days. For now take a look at the short clip below. It’s on Flickr which only let’s you create one minute or less videos. For myself, the fact images I created have been seen by thousands of people is amazing, whereas 10 years ago it would have been just a handful of people.

Fely and the rest of the Philippines Mission Love Seeds team have put together 2 slideshows from Typhoon Ketsana. The typhoon hit the mission pretty hard and they have been providing relief services to the families in the Antipolo area.

Pantay Church built in 2009

First day inside the church

On my last trip to the Philippines in March 2009, you saw the dedication of a new church built by Mission Love Seeds in the village of Sitio Pantay. A Kitchen and water tanks were soon added to the facility after we left. The next project on the list is a library and Sunday school building next to the church.

The Pantay church has been so crowded that they must hold Sunday school classes outdoors. Over the summer, I had the idea of adding a library next to the church which would also serve as a facility for Sunday school classes. We began collecting books in English here in Destin and the mission team in the Philippines began collecting books in Tagalog (Filipino language).

The cost of the project will be around $6800. $2500 has already been raised. To help fund the project Mission Love Seeds is holding a fundraiser with 4 chances to win a Destin, FL vacation. VIDEO – Sitio Pantay Church March 2009

Watch a short video about the church that was dedicated in March 2009 in Sitio Pantay. The video is one I produced while in the Philippines as an introduction to a video conference children in the Philippines held with children in Destin Florida. The library will go in front of  the church and support Sunday school classes for the church.
